If you know anyone interested in applying for LIA Class 44, applications are due August 1. Tuition will be $3,000 plus travel and lodging. New this year will be the elimination of the written essay. Instead, the Board of Trustees have established that each applicant will submit a 3-5 minute self-interview video regarding their desire to be in LIA Class 44. Samples of video self-interviews will be posted to the LIA website. Also new, the application will be completed and submitted online. Applications can be found at www.leadershipidahoag.org/apply.
The 2023 Gala and Auction raised $147,570. Thank you to everyone who contributed, supported and purchased items at the auction. Special thanks to the LIA Auction Committee and Class 43 for their work in adding to the success of the auction. The LIA Executive Committee met last week and made the decision to cancel the 2023 Washington, DC Experience. Chairman Neil Durrant, Class 34, indicated it was due to the low interest, extremely expensive flights and the extended winter causing late spring field work. In August, LIA will again host House Congressional Aides for a tour in Southwestern Idaho. The co-chairmen of the planning committee are Neil Durrant, Class 34, and Dennis Merrick, Class 39. Congratulations to Casey Attebery, Class 40, who is the new Natural Resources and Environment director for Senior Senator Mike Crapo. Previously, Casey served as State Agriculture Director and that position will now be handled by Tony Snodderly out of the Lewiston office. Sympathy is extended to Steve, Class 21, and Brenda Green on the passing of their 34 year old son, Ryan. Ryan was working in Colorado at the time of his passing. Sympathy is sent to Lori Satterwhite-Turner, Class 36, on the passing of her grandmother. Lori works for Simplot Land and Livestock as a rangeland monitoring specialist in Twin Falls. Sympathy is shared with Don Dixon, Class 15, and his son Tobin Dixon, Class 39, on the passing of Don’s wife and Tobin’s mother, Georgia. She worked several years for Senator Larry Craig in his Idaho Falls office. Don and Georgia were married 67 years. Thoughts and prayers are sent to Malia Miller, Class 36, and Ryan Miller, Class 33, on the passing of Malia’s father over the weekend. Malia’s father lived in Salem, Oregon. Congratulations to Randy Brooks, Class 16, who recently received the Outstanding Instructor award from the U of I College of Natural Resources. Positive reports are being received on Carly Schoepflin, Class 34, who was in the hospital and diagnosed with bacterial meningitis. Carly is employed at the U of I College of Agriculture as Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives. Karma Metzler Fitzgerald, Class 41, has been named a 2023 Afterschool Ambassador by the Afterschool Alliance. Karma co-founded the Lincoln County Youth Center in Richfield and serves as chairman of the Lincoln County Youth Commission. Karma will join 15 other Afterschool Ambassadors from around the US. One of the major events the Ambassador group will coordinate is a rally called Lights on Afterschool event for Thursday, October 26, 2023.
