Congressional Aides Fact Finding Tour
August 2024
Leadership Idaho Agriculture Foundation is pleased to join forces with Idaho’s agriculture industry in creating the LIA Congressional Aides Fact Finding Tour. This tour is designed to bring Congressional Aides from Washington, DC to Idaho to experience and learn about issues facing Idaho agriculture.
This program was originally sponsored and coordinated through Food Producers of Idaho. After several successful years, the tour was discontinued due to some additions to the Congressional Ethics Rules which complicated the trip to Idaho. The trip was re-established in 2019 in a partnership with Leadership Idaho Agriculture and Idaho’s agriculture industry. In order to meet the requirements of the House Ethics Committee, the tour must be coordinated through a non-profit foundation. As a result, LIA was selected to coordinate and host the tour.
One of our goals is to have our guests meet as many people as possible from Idaho. We would like to invite you as LIA alumni to join us for meals and for any portion of the tour that your schedule allows. Spouses are also encouraged to join you for meals - we just ask that you register their names with us in advance for counts and set up.
Another priority on this trip is to educate the staffers about Idaho agriculture. Compared to other parts of the country, Idaho agriculture is diverse and has a number of different challenges. Congressional Staffers will be visiting several production agriculture operations; hops, onions, potato, dairy, cattle, and learning about the seed industry.
